If you are on my IG you probably know by now that last week I went to Venice but not to see the gondolas but to visit the famous Fincantieri Shipyard and the even more famous Nieuw Statendam before she sets sail. It was an opportunity for me to see the ship before any guests come onboard and to get to know her before I will start to work there in January 2019.
And it was awesome!! I never got to see a ship before delivery. In my mind I had this dry dock image where life for the crew just isn’t the greatest but this 3 days spend onboard a brand new ship, to my surprise, were glamorous.
The food was better than ever, the lounges brand new, the carpet fluffy and my eyes were shinning with joy to see all this beauty.
When I packed, however, it did not cross my mind that there might be some events going on (hey the dry dock image was the only thing I knew) so I packed sneakers, sweaters, coveralls and bulky safety shoes. I was after all a sort of visitor.
You can imagine how underdressed I felt the morning of the Delivery Ceremony when every lady in the room was all high heels and pearls. That did not stop me however to attend the event even if it meant blending in with the press in the back behind monitors and microphones (which proved to be very fascinating to watch too).
Here are some pics I took of the event. You can read more about the ceremony on the official HAL blog.
I’m really excited to go back onboard in January and look forward meeting Oprah in February when the naming ceremony will take place!! Be sure it will go on the blog as well.
